I always make reservations when we intend to stop at a destination type park where availability might be a problem. While on the road, heading toward a destination, we will use the cell phone to call stops for the evening to reserve a spot. That way if we arrive after the office has closed we have a map and spot waiting for us. Often, in planning a trip, I will anticipate a few possible evening stopping points, often 50 miles apart, and have a list of phone numbers for available parks along the way. Then at noonish we can anticipate how far we will travel by about 4pm, or whatever.
Just our way, Happy Trails.
