making reservations

Well for overall peace in the valley I'd do a little give and take. Not knowing how long the trip is and in what area of the country, who is still working and who is retired makes it difficult to say with certainty.

Still it sounds like this is a family trip so I'd concede the reservation preference to my SIL, discuss my favored amenities and let him make the reservations. I'm confident you'll find other aspects of this shared family travel to prevail on your side:)
