Exactly! The article says,
"His wife said they left him in a pool of blood in between the two front seats."I would deduce that since a) his wife was not with him and b) that he was parked on a city street in his own town, and c) that the door was unlocked, that he was out partying and sleeping it off.
We don't know if in fact he was in bed and tried to get to the front seat to drive away, or if he was sleeping in the front seat. I would say that if he was in bed, he would have likely used the pistol under his pillow. So it sounds like he was sleeping in the front seat and the thieves found the pistol while ransacking the bedroom.
