IMO the right thing here would be to properly secure the hitch. This is much more important than the possible overload situation.
What will it take to insure that everyone NOT fail to properly match the ball size to the hitch socket, install the lock pin, or in my case to tighten the knob, and to secure the chains? Would that be a short check list, or better yet,.....a DO LIST?
