Here's what I've decided to do. Once I've narrowed down my choice of RVs to my short list, I will email this forum thread to each manufacturer and ask for their response.
If they don't acknowledge a problem in the industry, or don't respond at all, they're off the list. If they don't provide a sincere, believable answer to the problem in general, and an answer describing how they are combating the problem within their own company, they're off the list.
Once a manufacturer provides a satisfactory response, I'll further evaluate their product and conclude my purchase decission.
Check out Heartland and the Heartland owners forum. I have been asking questions about the Bighorn we purchased and the Bighorn general manager has been researching and answering. I am unbelievably impressed with them. The unit I bought was at a show. The regional sales manager (who gave me his cell number) gave me a long tour of the coach. When I had a question he couldn't answer, he called the factory and got one of the engineers to answer. He wasn't embarrassed by the build quality of this coach. It was great. There were a few little problems that he acknowledged and also informed the factory about.
The bottom line is that Heartland only makes 10 RV's a day. That is less than 25% of what their competitors make with the same number of people on the line. Yes, my Bighorn is expensive. But as they say, you get what you pay for.
