In Oregon every park has a Ranger Volunteer Coordinator who is the one choosing the volunteers and over-seeing their assignments.
We have maintained that 3 months is long enough in one spot, really prefer 2 months, but most coordinators have 3 month openings.
Although this past year we have been filling in for Rangers who have a month only vacancy. This gave us a chance to go to several Oregon Parks which we had not either volunteered nor visited. At the end of a volunteer stint there is always the option to be either asked to return or to let the Volunteer Coord. know that you want to return.
Also there is so much of Oregon we have not seen that our mission in starting to volunteer in Oregon was to see as many parks as we could by volunteering. Other volunteers for whatever reason choose a particular area and only volunteer in that Region of Oregon.
We will be narrowing down the parks we volunteer at and limit our volunteering total yearly time to 4-5 months this next year. As we age there are some positions which require physical work which is too tasking, and that is a sign to either quit volunteering or to change type of volunteering we choose to do.
