If you rule out the temp being to cold for the thermostat to turn it on I would go with this. We have a fantastic fan in the bathroom that does not have a thermostat. Every once in a while when I open it I have to go up on the roof and mess with the plunger switch to get it to turn on. One of these days I will just replace the switch. Those vent fans get a lot of moisture up in there. This time of year the furnace running will create even more moisture.
