Just got home from ordering some new skins for the rig. I poured over the tire threads and settled on maxxis. Local discount tire could order them up, so I pulled the trigger an hour or so ago...made very clear date codes had better be recentish. During the inevitable, "just curious, why maxxis" discussion the guy(s) said the computer indicated they're soon to be discontinued. That's the first I'd heard that...wondering if it's really just an issue of them not going to be available at discount tire any more. Anyone else heard this?

Interesting...Maxxis makes lots of tires for lots of applications...like ATV tires, etc.Maybe they are discontinuing a tire but maybe not the 8008 ST's.I couldn't find any info about any Maxxis discontinues.I'll give the local Les Schwab a call where I got mine and see what they know??

I recently saw a ad for maxxis tires and they were showing a speed rating of 100 mph. Maybe they are coming out with new styles. JAWAG. If I can find the ad I will post a link.Here. They still show as being 8008 but speed rating is shown as 100 mph unless its a misprint. Very good price though.

There have been "problems" in Thailand. I hope the employees and factory survive. I had good luck with my 8008's...........

Funny here they say its a high speed tire A few other places i have check say its a Q rated tire which is good up to 100MPH.

High speed = recommended for highway use. Other niche tires like tractor tires/construction equipment tires/etc are imprinted on the sidewall "not for highway use".

The Maxxis ST 8008 as all ST tires are rated up to 65 mph.

I agree with this. A while back I had a blowout on my boat trailer (Carlisle tire), took it to Discount Tire and asked for Maxxis to replace all of the tires on the trailer. Before I pulled off the lot I checked the tires and they had put Carlisles on there. When I complained, I was told that they were better than Maxxis! After an earful from me they orderd the Maxxis and put them on a day or so later.

When I called the following year to order Maxxis for the fiver, they again tried to push Carlisles - that is until they remembered me. Once they realized I wanted what I asked for, it was plain sailing.

I am sure that they have some sort of deal with Carlisle and may well be thinking about not bothering to deal with Maxxis any more by simply saying they are being discontinued - at least I hope so. If that is the case I'll just buy them somewhere alse next time.

I still have Carlisles on my Lawn Tractor, and even they keep going flat - have even put several tubes of goo in them all, but still go flat! :)

I would suspect it is only being "discontinued" at that vendor. Maxxis makes niche tires to begin with. There is not much they don't make a tire for.

ST tires are a niche tire. A very low production number in the big picture of P and LT tires.
Maxxis may be doing what several USA tire mfg did years ago and drop their ST tire line or as Goodyear has done and outsource them.

Or it may be a particular size that is on national back order. It takes a while to fill the shelves.
Or the tire chain may just drop them.

I have been happy with mine and until someone shows me one with a better track record, that's what you will find on my trailer.

I had to order them, knew that going in.

The guy showed the screen, sure enough it said something along the lines of "to be discontinuued'. Also had a 1 star rating (Carlisle had three). Guy said it's listed as an "entry level" tire....even though it's the most expensive. He thought that was weird. That was about the time another associate walked up and said that "whenever a guy comes in for maxxis tires,it's clear they're only going to leave with maxxis tires"

Discount Tire has been pushing the Carlisle line of tires for some time now. Most likely they have a contract with them that pays more money than the Maxxis line.

It is all about marketing and the product that brings in the most money wins.
