Maxxis are still an ST tire. All ST tires are built to meet a marginal non passenger carrying standard. There are numerous photos of ST tires failing/self destructing. You don't often see these types of failures with an LT tires. LT tires are rated to carry people ST's are not.
ST tires maybe adequate for most trailers but RV trailers and the associated weights and aerodynamics are too much for the ST tire construction standard.
If at all possible upgrade to an LT tire.
IF only ST's are available get the largest payload/PSI rating available and cross your fingers.LOL
You make some good points IMO, however in the end I see nothing wrong with ST tires as long as you understand their inherent limitations. I believe a lot of issues happen from folks not using them within their clear limitations, overloading and speed being the two biggest. Even this their highlights that from the speed issue where the OP never states what speeds he was traveling at, but only to allude to "traveling about 65mph" and that he "typically travels at a speed of 65mph". Those two statements lead me to believe that a significant amount of time was spent at speeds "IN EXCESS OF 65mph"!! I would wager a small bet that this particular failure was from "SPEED ABUSE".
