When I came along Mom and Dad had nothing. I spent a lot of time at Grand Ma's while Dad struggled to find a job and a house.
We had no water nor lekricity.
Grand ma and Mama cooked on a wood fired cooks stove and a big pot out back. I cut wood at 6 with a hatchet and small axe to fuel the big kettle used to make soap, hominey, cook large quanities of fruits for canning and so on.
so. Th root cellar had all kinds of foods, jellies and preserves from as far back as the thrities.
Camping was a heavy coat, a tow sack with some provisions or crammed into pockets of the coat. We slept where our Ancestors had and hunted and fished.
Absolutely no sounds of any civilization, and in many places no sounds at all.
I would love to be able to do it again but the RV won't fit down the old traces and paths.
