Medicare and medigap insurance

For those that are on Medicare and a supplemental plan:

We are fulltimers. I want to change the insurance company for my supplemental Plan F this year but one of the questions is "Do you live in SD for 6 months of the year?" So, what does one answer to that question when they DON'T live there for 6 months?

  • There is an insurance program out there right now that will cover the moving around issue but just don't use their website. A phone call is better and it will cover you anywhere.
  • I would parse my answer a bit differently.

I LIVE here in Washington State. All year. But I've been on vacation a lot in 2013: other US states 6weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week, and 1 more week. And I was out of the country 2 weeks and 3 weeks. None of that time changes the fact that my official residence for all 10.5 months of 2013 is still Washington State.

That is how I would answer the question, too. And it is truthful.

I would think your residence of record would trump that. The state where you have your drivers license, vehicle registration/title, and so on. I think maybe you should check on the Escapees Discussion Forums to see what other folks in your boat are doing.
  • By stating "no", that makes me ineligible for medigap insurance from any state since we do not live in any state for 6 months.
  • If you do not live in the state for the required six months, what else would you put other than NO. If you do not answer the questions truthfully it could result in the coverage being null and void. Why would you give any other answer?
  • My Blue Cross supplement was out of CA. When a I moved to WY it transferred to WY. I was told if you are out of area some things are not covered. Like a routine general physical. However, I don't go to a dr unless I am sick. If you go in complaining of aches and pains dr checks you out and it isn't a routine physical. You should ask your insurance company what the difference is. Probably in the fine print somewhere.
