Mexican train rules

We have just started playing Mexican Train and started with a couple of hotly contested rules. It will be a fun discussion no doubt.

Rule 1: We start with double twelves, and if no one has it then we move on to double 11's etc until someone starts the game. That fulfills the 12 section, and next round starts with double 11's.

Rule 2: The player that starts the round in the roundhouse then puts down their train using every tile they can.... then the fun started.

One way of playing is that each player plays out their best train, and then after the first round, any doubles left are satisfied in order using only one tile. After the first double is satisfied, play moves on to the next double... etc.. and only then does play start.

Another way of playing is that when a player in the first round ends in a double, the next player must satisfy and cannot put his train down. They must pick up if they cannot satisfy, but only one tile. Failure to satisfy then, play moves on to the next and must be satisfied.

Now then two ways of handling doubles came up... one way was failure to pick up and satisfy a double means than your engine goes up on your train, or the other way of handling a double means you pick up one, and if the double is not satisfied then your engine does not go up (only because it was a double)

So... what do you think, and how do you play?
  • We also make up our own rules as it's only a game. You play for fun...usually..:W...

If I'm losing though, I usually call in the Feds and have em check for 'green cards'.....:B:B.....Dennis
  • Remember people the operative word here is "Play". When it becomes anything else it's not play anymore. I'm retired now so let's 'Play".
  • I/We learned to play Mexican Train at a RV.NET Sweetheart Rally. The rules are stored in a empty corked wine bottle. The rules change at each table. Best rule I like is these are my Domino's. We play by my rules. If you want to play by your rules bring you own Domino's. :B
