Michigan State Parks are not the lone ranger on this.
After reading all the information here on the forum that most stay at State Parks to enjoy the nature vs concrete barren sites and to save money. So the next trip down south I thought I'd try it.
So on my next trip down to Florida my first thought was to stay at a State Park to enjoy their nature and save money.....NOT.
First of all you can't swim in any of the waters because of the gators and the rates? I asked what the extended stay would be for the winter was and when you added up all the 'different' fees it was more than the highest priced resort in the same area. And there were only a hand full of sites with FU and they of course where snarfed up by seasoned snowbirds. And the rest of the sites were buried into very small sites cut out of the woods without sewer. Fine for a small TT but real difficult to get a MH into.
For the same price and much more convenience I stay at real CG's. I get into my Toad and drive to the State Parks and enjoy all the fauna and flora I can stand for the day and then head back to a nice comfortable CG! :C
