If you get the right quality, they are great! Just be aware there is a wide variety in quality out there.
We have bath towels from Almost Heaven that we have used in the fiver for six years and we like them as well as the good cotton towels we use in the sticks and bricks (That means we are using the microfiber for about half of the year). They are very absorbent, soft, and dry quickly - we hang them both on the same hook and they dry in a couple of hours.
We have purchased a lot of other towels from Almost Heaven for cleaning both inside and out and I just bought a complete outside cleaning package with a variety of different types from them at Escapade.
As I said above, be careful of what you buy. The stuff you find in most stores comes from China, while the ones from Almost Heaven are all made in Korea.
On Edit: DW says we have been using the bath towels for closer to 9 years (we have a couple sets) she likes the Almost Heaven product due to the feel, more like suede compared to the rough feel of cheaper microfiber, and she likes the absorbency.
