Mississippi motor home registration

Anyone register their MH in MS? We will be relocating there next month. From what I've researched, I will have to pay a 30% ad velorum tax on the current depreciated value of my 2014 class A plus any local charges to get a MS title before I get plates. Any one have any experience? Where am I going to come up with that kind of money?

You could sell the motorhome, then you would have enough money to register it. WAIT! That won't work...forget that idea!

Seriously, if the website is not clear or does not give any information, just call the authorities in Mississippi and ask your question. That way you will get accurate up to date information.

An RV is not a cheap toy. Yes, it is a toy. If you need to ask this question, you really can not afford an RV. The tax paid to the state will end up being a very small part of the costs your RV is going to cause.
  • DownTheAvenue has the right idea, call the motor vehicle licensing authorities and get the correct info, I wouldn't depend on forum info for something that important and possibly quite costly.
  • Yeah, I'm gonna call down to Mississippi to see if someone can answer my questions. The info on line is confusing and I've chatted with a MS resident on another forum who has given me some info.
I think I could cover the 30% depreciated value of an 8 year old class C, but I've got a class A just over a year old and paid taxes to have it titled here!
    Thanks for the info!

Call the tax collector's office in the county you are moving to and ask them.
  • That could discourage me from moving to Mississippi, otherwise lauded as a low-cost, low-tax place to live. All states must raise money somehow, kind of up to us to figure out if we are one of the groups targeted to pay the bills :0
