Mosquitos

We're headed down to Daddy Joe's in Tabor City, NC next week. All I hear is how nice the place is but the skeeters can be big enough to carry off small children.

What's the latest and greatest thing these days for fighting off mosquitos? We really enjoy chilling on the patio but not when we're swatting ourselves constantly.

  • They are hard to find now but we carry a small electric bug light with us. We set it on top of the power box behind the camper and plug it in. It does a great jog of attracting the skeeters to the rear of the camper and away from the front side.

    any repellent that contains DEET.

And as high a concentration of DEET as you can get!
  • If you have electric, a couple box fans at either end of the patio would help. Otherwise, just use DEET. It's most effective and is safe to use.

We were confined to our motorhome one July 4 weekend when dry camping in a Upper Peninsula Michigan forest campground. The skeeters were so thick you didn't dare open the door. Spent the weekend reading books. :)
  • Or - have fun with the little critters while swatting 'em with one of those electronic bug zappers that look like a tennis racket! The zappers really work, and in the evening you get a satisfying snap! and a flash of light when you make contact. Skeeters fly slowly enough so they are easy to whack.

  • There have been a LOT of threads this month on the exact same questions, most with a lot of good answers. Do a "advanced search" with the keyword "mosquitos". check all the threads.
