I always put the mothballs in dixie cups and then sat the dixie cups around. I believe using the dixie cups may stop any mothball residue from getting into the fabrics, wood, etc. In the spring I just gathered them all up and aired out the camper for a few days. I really think putting them in dixie cups helped the air out process in the spring.
