My 30 amp to 15 amp adapter

I needed to replace my 30 to 15 amp adapter. At Walmart, instead of having an adapter with a plug at either end and a pigtail cord between them, I found a much smaller item with the two plugs on either side of a plastic piece, maybe 2 inches in size . Is this a safe and acceptable replacement t? Also, I replaced because the ground pin broke off of my adapter. Did that make it unsafe or could I still use it?
  • I have used those but they always melted! Buy the DogBone 30-15 Camco with yellow ends!
  • My hockey puck adaptor failed after a few week. Now I use a dog bone and it has lasted a number of years.
  • You are OK as long as you do not use the A/C they are to big and those small addapters tend to melt, the refrigerator is OK, a small hair dryer, microwave, small toaster or crockpot can run as long as only one is used at a time and not all used at the same time, if the ground peg is broken, you may get a good shock now and then, that is unsafe and a potential electrocution situation do not use broken electrical addapters or extention cords.

  • The hockey puck adaptors have been know to be the cause of an intermittent ground. In my case, the Ground Female did not mate with the Ground Male on the 30 Amp side until I crimped the female.

It had CSA markings but when I approached CSA about the matter they had no record of such approvals.
  • This one? Or similar?

That is known as a 'hockey puck' adapter vs the adapter with a short cord is known as a 'dog bone'

Dog bone tends to hold up better during heavy use such as 24/7 space heater or A/C running. If you are mostly running propane or just for storage etc then the hockey puck is fine. Check for heat during heavy use.
  • As long as that adapter is quality made it will be fine. I use one.

Loss of the safety ground pin can be dangerous. You did right by replacing it.
