Maybe they don't want you to be away from them, some might call that selfish but it just might be that they care about you and want your remaining years to be around them. We would like to have our parents around us when they are elderly, so yeh, although we would'nt contest them hitting the road full time we would not be thrilled about it either.
My above thougts only apply to if you are considering full timing, if your just talking about camping then I don't see why there would be an issue.
