Just like those who live in rural areas have to drive an hour to get to a grocery store, it's all in what you are used to. Most of us just accept it as it is what it is.
"Carrying capacity" is quite different to the described experiment though, in that it allows for more variables than just population growth. In the real world, all of the stated elements of the experiment are variables and capable of expansion, with an unknown maximum carrying capacity. Of course these variables are not infinite, but we do know we are nowhere near the limits at this point.
