My method for organizing all those pre-trip details

I'll pass this along, hoping that someone will find it useful. For the last three years, I have keep my lists of pre-trip details in a spiral-bound notebook. (A 4" x 6" is right for me, two facing pages for each trip.) At the top of one page is a reminder to stop mail, stop newspaper, get cash. (Strange so say, without the list it might be possible for me to forget about those things until the last second.)

I list what clothes and groceries are to be loaded, and odds & ends such as satelite receiver & remote, medicines, pet's food & supplies, DVDs, and so on.

Now that the notebook has lists for several trips in different seasons, it is helpful to look back and see what clothes and groceries were taken on hot summer trips or cool fall trips, on shorter trips or extended trips. A trip-list for a similar previous trip makes a good starting place for the next trip.
  • I have done the same with a spiral notebook since day one of ownership. Keeping a diary as we travel reminds me of those great campgrounds, and also not so great.

I try to keep it current as we travel. As age increases it seems my mind has "lapses" from time to time.

But I never get lost, as my bride of 43 years tells me where to go almost every day!
