My motorhome is hard to control at highway speeds.

First step is to load the MH as it would be for travel and get it weighed. Best is each corner separately but at least each axle separately. Set the tire pressures per the load/inflation tables for your tires. Over inflated tires on the front end reduce the tire/road contact area and side to side friction with the road surface making it easier for the front end to slide left/right in varying crosswinds and when trucks pass. Next step would be an alignment.

After you adjust the air pressure and get the alignment (every new car I ever bought was out of alignment when i bought it), get a SteerSafe and see where that leaves you. Next steps would be the largest sway bars you can get and a trac bar. I don't know if a shock upgrade would be necessary on a new coach.

When I got my 02 Winnebago Sightseer, I couldn't hardly keep it on the road. Alignment and tire pressure helped a lot. Higher tire pressures do not help handling. SteerSafe took it to another level. Mine did require 1 adjustment. I installed every handling add on I could find on the internet. After all that it handles very well. Henderson Bell cranks, Henderson front springs (no airbags), SteerSafe, polyurethane sway bar bushings front and rear, Bilstein shocks, rear trac bar, and timbren type helper springs front and rear (because I couldn't get bigger sway bars) and a few other things that I can't remember. I kept telling myself that even owners of new units have to go through this. Looks like I was right.

A couple of things.

1) Check your tire pressures and if you don't get it weighed, use the GAWR's and set the PSI to what the tire manufacturer's guide says. The numbers may be less than what is on the placard. DO not use the tire sidewall numbers as they are meaningless on your motorhome.

2) Go over to iRV2.com and look in the Ford chassis owners section for a very long discussion on Cheap Handling Fix or just do a Google search. Don't spend a lot of money on stuff until you try the simple first.

Take it to a front end shop and have them put as much castor they can put in the front end.

I did that on my Excursion and it helped. I never thought of doing it on the Motorhome. I used Henderson Specs.

Too little +caster can manifest itself as "loose steering" and "wandering" at highway speeds.

We have a ford chassis and did the cheap handling fix on both front and rear and it did help. We then added the Saf-T-Plus steering stabilizer which helped even more. The stabilizer seemed to help with semi push and side wind. It also will pull steering back to center and help if you go off onto a shoulder. We first put on new tires, had alignment done then these other things.

My sympathies to the OP but I do not know why so many folks never take a proper {as in thorough}, test drive BEFORE plopping down a bunch of hard earned cash on a motorhome. For the record how about at least an hour on a variety of roads and highways.

What does it feel like when an 18 wheeler blows by you at 80? How much acceleration do you have on an up hill on ramp? How's the visibility with the existing mirrors or do you have to rely on multiple cameras to see what is around the coach {don't get me started}.

Any motorhome that does not drive and handle well right off of the showroom floor is the WRONG motorhome! You should never have to spend dime one to get a $100,000{+}, RV to drive and ride well. I'll let you in on a little industry secret.... If it doesn't drive well right off of the lot it is NOT going to get one bit better without you spending an inordinate amount of money on aftermarket fixes {that may or may not work}.

Fortunately many ride and handling problems are easy to solve. As noted, weigh the rig loaded for normal travel. Inflate your tires appropriately for the load they are carrying and if necessary {and it should NEVER be necessary on a new RV}, get the alignment properly done.

If a dealership balks at a proper test drive... Run Forrest run to a reputable dealer who wants to earn your business. If the coach needs and alignment that is 100 per cent the dealers problem before ANY money changes hands.

Start by getting it alligned.
It was alligned at the chassis manufacurer but after all the weight of the "house" is added, it needs to be alligned again. Many RV co's dont to that.

Bought our 30.1 about a year ago. Things i have done since.

Weigh it and adjust tire pressure.

Safety steer - helps to cut down the "looseness" of the steering action

Cheap Handling Fix - I had to google this but it's a fairly simple adjustment you can make with a few tools.

All of these have helped the control. On open interstate, I can put cruise control on 65 and have no problem driving it.

Will probably take it in and get alignment done sometime in not too distant future.
