Just to clarify, its my understanding that while the device can and will detect a variety of smoke vapors, its primary function in any RV is to detect the presence of any form of cooking pork, then to set off an acoustical alarm that notifies all surrounding campers what you have on the stove at that moment. Most times these detectors work best while all others parked in the adjoining campsite are still in REM sleep (around dawn) and serves to arouse them from that slumber. I am on my 6th RV and about 8 SD alarms- and I have yet to have one fail to work in accordance with this apparent industry specification !! And having your screen door open to relieve the smoke when your alarm goes off-- we'll that's just being a downright neighborly camper --right!
As a connoisseur of all forms of pork prepared a'la stove top -my smoke detector carries about the same sentiment in our RV as my red solo cup- and that's pretty important. If it ain't makin noise at daybreak then I must not be RV camping properly or getting proper pork nutrition.
