The soda crates I've seen are about four or five inches tall, maybe two feet wide, and eighteen inches deep. They are not approximately cube-shaped like milk crates and would be a good bit less tippy.
(With their dimensions, it's also hard to see how the nifty Harbor Freight folding step platform would be a reasonable replacement; it's a whole lot taller, and trimming the legs down sufficiently to be about the same would seem to make them too stubby to be operable.)
