I've also had the strange experience of having the same person pass me 4-5 times in a day. (This past summer, it was a guy with a big toy hauler.) My fuel tank isn't all that big, and my mileage isn't all that great (11 mpg while towing at 60), so I always assumed it was because they stopped more for bathroom breaks, stretching, etc... My parents have to stop more than we do. We're still youngish (early 40s) and can go for a full fuel tank worth of time (~3.5 hours) before needing a stop. Refueling stops, taking into consideration the time to get off the highway, back on, wiggling around to get to the gas station and pump, refueling, paying, waiting for DW and kids to use the toilet, can take 15-20 minutes. It's not all about speed and how long refueling itself takes.
