My vote for best vacuum

We're out for the winter. Wife was watching the CBS morning show when they interviewed Sir Dyson. He was talking about his new Beast 56 which was coming out the next week. I've heard about Dyson vacs for years.

So, we went to Best Buy and bought one. I have to say that I'm the eternal skeptic. Well I have to say I've got to eat a big helping of crow.

Our MH has a Dirt Devil central vac which I use a couple times a week when we are out. When we get home, I use the wife's Bosh on the carpets and then use the carpet cleaner. Thought I was doing a good job over the last six years.

Well, the Dyson really embarrassed me. I couldn't believe the dirt and pet hair that came out of the carpet the first four or five times I used it. YUCK!

Wonder what I will come out of the rugs at home. The Beast is all plastic but seems to be well made. It does come with two year warranty. Only time will tell. But so far, I'm totally blown away.

  • Gave the central vac system in our RV away. Wife likes the Dyson in the house so much she bought the little brother of it with a power head and she is happy and so am I. I was skeptical at first but it really works well.

I read these testimonials and I am still trying to figure out which one is as good as it says it is. I read Cosumers Guide and they rate the Dyson below the Hoover (rewind). So I bought one,(Hoover), it isn't bad, but I am looking for a vacuum cleaner they had when I was a kid. They would suck the rug right up off the floor. These new ones will not suck a peanut up a half inch from the nozzel. Over the years I have owned about every model made and have not found a really good one yet. I have a small cannister garage vac that will absolutely suck the carpet up, but it is hard to use for a floor cleaner.

Consumers report is a joke...I have a Dyson and it's the best vacuum we've ever owned, per the resident expert, (my wife:)).....I have a central vac system in the 5er and it does a great job, but the Dyson is easier to use and does a better job....

Maybe CR didn't like the color of the Dyson, or it's sucess...We have a Dyson in our home and in the 5er....they both work the best..
  • OP here. The real test will be when we get home in March. Our house has a Galaxy central vac with a power head. It is really powerful. I've had to retrieve more than one item unintentionally sucked into the canister in the garage. Will really be interesting to see what the Dyson pulls out of the area rugs.

  • We kind of did the same thing before we bought our Dyson about 8 years ago. A friend had one and always raved about it so my wife borrowed it. We took our old vac at the time (I think it was a Hoover of some variety) and put a new bag in it and vacuumed the house carpet thoroughly. Went back over with the Dyson and filled the container in pretty short order. Went and bought the Dyson Animal (at least I think that is the name) and haven't looked back.

He had our carpets cleaned not too long ago and guy commented that we must have them cleaned often because the water that was being pulled out wasn't as dirty as he usually saw. It has been at least 5 years since we had the carpets cleaned. That is with 2 kids and 2 dogs in the house.
