To me the chances of having a trailer accident is very small, hence I would put the risk factor pretty darned low since if you don't have an accident, you're unlikely to be hurt riding in it. Personally, I simply couldn't do it, but Peggy likes to ride back there. But I do try to discourage the prospect, just makes me uncomfortable.

I wouldn't do it but there are some major over reactions on this thread.

If you've seen a typical Motor Home crash, it doesn't look any better but people will tell you to buy one because you can make lunch and use the toilet while cruising at 70mph.

You're probably more likely to be injured riding in a motor vehicle than riding in a trailer. Lots and lots of motor vehicle accidents, trailer accidents, not so much. Just boils down to your risk factor.

In one article 23 states allowed riding in a towable with various state conditions like seat belts, travel trailer vs 5er, etc.

Perhaps the truck had 5 seats and there were 6 people? Apparently legal is some states but with other requirement like seat belts and safety glass?

A real shame. In many states illegal and never a good idea. This applies to humans and animals. They took a risk and lost. Now must live with the aftermath for years. They are in our prayers.

Why was someone riding in the trailer? Did I read that right? My goodness, I thought that was illegal. Regardless, not a good idea.
