You say you don't need a 4X4, but the fact is, most of the pickups that are flat towable without modifications are the 4X4 models. The 4X4 transfer case neutral position is what allows them to be towed 4 wheels down.
I've been towing a GMC Canyon small pickup (twin to the Chevy Colorado) behind my MH for 8 yrs and for me its a perfect towed vehicle. quick & simple setup, no speed or time limitations, no battery drain, no key left in the ignition while traveling
If you look through the Motorhome Magazine 2014 Dinghy Guide (avail free online) you'll find at least 6 small to med size pickups that are towable, but almost all are 4X4
