Unfortunately our daughter and her "husband" divorced and we've had to keep our grandson every day during the school year so his mom can go to work. His loser dad moved out of town and doesn't even pay child support. So the best we can do is travel during the summer and unfortunately summer is very short. Don't mean to be a spoiler; enjoy every mile of your travels and stay safe.
If he's a good student, maybe you can work with the teacher/school by getting his scheduled work ahead of time and take him out of school for a few days a week so you can travel and take him with you. It would be a great bonding experience and give him a lifetime of memories.
