need your info on bike rack

Anyone out there using a stromberg ladder bike rack? it will be mounted to a 5er ladder. I feel like I have blind faith in those rubber straps that hold the bikes. Especially if the rubber gets old and sun rot. Of course I'd rather have the receiver hitch rack, but for limited use I would like to try and get away with this ladder rack. Any tips or advice would help.

  • Saw a RV dragging a bike behind it this year. IMHO this is the BEST bike rack you can buy but it isn't cheap however you do not need to worry about your bikes on it. draftmaster
  • Strap everything down so it can't move!

I guess it makes some difference if you're just carrying Mom's Huffy or if you have the latest, bestest specialty custom touring model. If I had some bikes worth thousands, I'd add a font receiver and a bike carrier on the front of the truck. There would be no trailer weight considerations and I'd be able to keep an eye on them. I don't trust those ladders, either.
  • I use a Swagman towing hitch mounted bike rack. I really don't think that the bikes on a ladder looks that safe. I know that a lot of people do it, I just don't think so. I don't feel secure on my ladder and really don't think I want to lose my bike. The cost of the style that I have is only around $100 or so and I have peace of mind. Have towed coast to coast several times with no problems. JMO

Odds are real good you will tear up your ladder
  • People use them. But people also have their ladders torn off by the excess weight. You want something safe? Install a frame mounted hitch and get a hitch mounted bike rack.
