neighbor encroachment

Not an encroachment incident but one story of my dad's that was a favorite was when my folks and several other sets of friends were camping in their RV's (1 Class C, 1 Class A and a couple TT's) in an "unofficial" campground. They were all set up including screen tents, grills, chairs, tables, etc. covering a rather large area up from the shore of the local Corp lake. Around 1am or so, long after they'd gone to bed, a group of younger folks showed up in an area next to them and proceeded to pitch a tent and get drunk(er) and rowdy with loud music, yelling, screaming and laughing. Requests to have them quite down fell on deaf ears and belligerent attitudes.

One of the guys camping in the group was a hunter/trapper/fur buyer and happened to have a cassette of mountain lions mating sounds in his pick-up. So, about 6am when he woke up he got his boombox from the camper, carried it closer to the tent campers, turned it up as loud as it would go and played that tape of the worst cat screams you can imagine. My dad said he'd never seen anyone tear down camp as fast as those kids did!

I try to be pretty easy going when I'm in a park, which isn't very often, especially since Deputy Dog is going to kill some weeds along the front of their site at some point during our stay.

On one particular occasion a fella across the way told me to "curb my dog" who was lifting his leg on the lamp at the edge of the site.

Things changed about dusk that night when his wife came out the door to find a large citrus rat eating the sunflower seeds she'd put out for the birds. Several of us went over to see what was up, from about 25' Deputy Dog spotted the rat and froze, trembling & whining. His 'give' to me. Before I'd even finished the words "Git em" he was off. He hit that rat at a full out sprint, it never knew what hit it. A quick chomp & shake and dropped it waiting for his praise.

Suddenly he was the center of attention and everyone's darling. He even got a nice tidbit of pot roast from the Offended DW while DH was disposing of the body.

That's an awesome story. :)

The only issue I've had is kids cutting through our campsite once in a while. I don't say anything unless they do it twice.

I once stayed at an RV park near Disneyland. I forget the name of it, but it's the closest one to the park. I had reserved a site big enough for my slides and for parking the toad. When I got the site I could open the slides, but there was no room (even without the slides) to park the toad. The only parking for the toad was in the site next to me, which was too short for my motorhome, but was wide and had parking for the toad. So I went to complain to the manager that I was specifically told I would have on site parking and I did not. He told me to go ahead and park the toad in the parking area of the next space and that if anybody showed up to rent that space he would tell them they only get half the space. Without being able to park on my site the only other available parking was a few hundred yards away.

Anyway the toad was parked there when a smaller Class C with a toad showed up. They backed into the site and then parked their toad at the other parking area. The wife and I went to dinner and when we came back their toad was taking the space in their camp site. The office was already closed so I just parked in the other parking area the rest of the weekend and didn't worry about it. But anyway the point of the story is I'm sure if those people used RV.NET I'm sure they would be writing about the rude guy who parked his truck in their campsite. I know the manager never told them our arrangement so they must have thought I was the rudest RVer ever.

One thing to remember is that in California the beach between the low tide line and the high tide line is PUBLIC property. It isn't even part of the campground. Beach front home owners have the same issue.

I have a tip for you, don't camp there! You may wake up under water.

Gotta say.. I've never had one actually reach that point. Yikes!

I have never seen people that brazen.
