neighbor encroachment

Some campsites can be very small, especially in the California beach areas. Has anyone ever experienced a neighbor putting their items on and taking over your already small piece of real estate? Such as you look out the back window of your RV and there your neighbors are sitting around a fire partying right behind your RV. On another occasion again in a beach area, the neighbors put up an EZ-up blocking the view out the back window of our RV. Has anyone else had this experience?

  • Some folks don't have a clue or understand.
Not that they are stupid just clueless.
Beach settings are like that because the beach is open to all.

    Are they wrong.....YES
    Should they do it.....NO

Sometimes just a friendly word about site boundaries is all that is needed.

If that doesn't work I usually squirt them with my hose just like a stray dog.
    That's gets their attention.
  • I've had people very rudely try to take over my site and I've had people go to great lengths to try and stay on their own postage stamp sized site.

I got very tired of a fellow walking through my site and nearly under my awning. On a trip through I handed him my trash bag and said "If you plan on camping with us, you need to work for it". He laughed, took my trash and said "I guess I am really in your space". We had occasional pleasant conversation the rest of the weekend.

The opposite was a gentleman who was killing himself trying to keep his toad dolly off our site. The sites were very cramped and he would have no space with the dolly on his site and there was no place else to park it. I suggested that he run the tongue up under the back of our trailer to free up his site. If he did that under his MH it would block our table. It worked for both of us.

The key is courtesy. If someone respects my site and is in a bind, I'll do anything for them. If they are rude, I'll use a little passive aggressive humor and hope for the best. I'm not going to be confrontational, its just not worth it.

Does Camping World carry claymores? Do I get a discount for being a GS member?:B
  • Only one time that I can remember, that was many years ago. A MH pulled into the site beside us pulling in forward. That put his door facing our side. He then proceeded to put out lawn furniture on our side. We stopped him when we pulled out our quick shade and moved our chairs between his coach door ANC the road. He had no choice but to walk directly through our quick shade and chairs. He finally moved his furniture to his own side. We never exchanged words, but he got the message.
  • The German Shephard(s) leashed to my back bumper or the picnic table usually stops any problems before they become problems. They are friendly dogs but most people don't assume so.
  • Some people just don't understand their boundaries. Unfortunately they need to be reminded. I for one would do just that.
