I am curious, just for comparison sake... what is the payload of your Toyota? Ive often thought that would be a good TV. Thanks
Sugar Grove....I used to live in Batavia....
Anyway, 1265 on my Sequoia, as usual payload is the limiting factor. If you run rough math you would see that it is the same as the Tundra, including the extra weight on the interior of the SUV. The Tundra's payload is more, but both max out at 7000-7200 max vehicle weight. Same frame, same motor, same 4.3 rear axle ratio.
If you can live within the low payload weight, the Sequoia is a great tow vehicle. If you need more payload, look at the 1700 lbs on the Expedition. Even though the tow ratings on the Expedition aren't j2807 compliant (about 9000 lbs), I don't think the payload capacity would be affected. I had a Denali XL, also air suspension, but it wasn't nearly as good as the Sequoia even though the Denali had 8" more wheelbase. The Sequoia has electronic stiffening shocks which ironically really make a difference when towing.
So while a great vehicle for us, for now, until the kids grow, the age of the design, fuel economy, and price make it hard to recommend. But quality and reliability are great.
The Expedition is up for a new design, which is supposed to be J2807 compliant in a couple years. No word on a Sequoia replacement.
