With as much care as he's taken in weighing everything, I highly doubt he is over capacity, and even if he is right at capacity, the truck darn well better handle the load safely, if not comfortably.
The fact that he goes to great length to state how well the rig did, means he is either in complete denial, or it is actually comfortable. Given how conscientious he was in weighing everything properly, I can't imagine he'd be oblivious to the truth.
As long as he keeps up the maintenance, he will be safe. He will be comfortable as long as he is comfortable. Odds are sooner or later some shortcoming will crop up; when it does he will no longer be comfortable, and will upgrade (e.g. when I started towing with my old 4.8L truck I thought it was "fine" but after a few years I got impatient and needed more power).
