On my Blue ox swaypro hitch, same issue. It's tight up in there and takes a thinwall socket. Mine is 1-13/16". The OD of the socket is 2.5" and just does slip up in there. This is an SK socket. In my case, I took the hitch head and ball with me to the tool store so I could make sure it would fit.
PS, ignore the cheap shots from the peanut gallery. Stick around here and you'll find most folks really are helpful
