New York State Volunteer in the Parks Program

My husband and I are considering participating in the NYS Volunteer in the Parks program, but have a few questions. The application says you have to be there a minimum of 2 weeks. That isn't a problem except for the fact that I'm an Avon representative and would need to go home for 1 day to deliver orders to my customers. I can place the order and do the rest of the work from my camper (I've done it while on vacation in Jamaica!), but the actual delivery of the product, I would need to leave the campground to do. My husband still works and would come up in the evening, but I could be at the camper for the 2 weeks. Has anyone participated in the volunteer program? Would you be able to give us more details on how it works? Thank you!

  • CAP volunteers serve for a minimum of two, maximum of four weeks, usually between Memorial Day and Labor Day at the park manager's discretion. They are on duty five days per week, including weekends and holidays. CAPs will be asked to work only two to five hours per day, but they may be on call at all times - See more at: http://nysparks.com/camping/camper-assistance-program.aspx#sthash.1hp9Qson.dpuf

Sounds like you should be able to go home - leave a number and if needed go back!
  • You know, you could discuss this with a representative of the park system's volunteer program. I found several contacts using Google. Having said that, you will have days off so you could deliver your product then!
