Nissan Leaf as toad

Anyone using a Nissan Leaf for their toad? We are making our first trip this summer and if it goes well we will taking another next year with a toad. Was wondering if you were able to use the RV park 30/50 to recharge the Leaf while camping. I don't see my wife doing much boondocking so was thinking having the Leaf as a toad would be a good option if we can recharge at the rv park.
  • It seems that an electric toad would be a great idea for running around. The Leaf has a short range, however.
  • I own a 2011 Leaf. I use a tow dolly, front on. it is a front wheel drive. i use the 120 volt charger
  • As long as you have an adapter for the Leaf for a 30-20A or 50-20A you can use your normal 120V plug for the leaf, otherwise, you may need to build yourself an adapter that can go to 30A or 50A. Using the 20A adapter, it would be no different than plugging into a standard outlet. A 50A plug gets you the 240V the Leaf needs for faster charging.

Looking at the Owners Manual published by Nissan, it shows the acceptable towing methods to be 4 wheels OFF the ground (Trailer), or the REAR wheels on the ground (Dolly), and make sure you release the parking brake.
  • Have you checked its manual to see what it ways about recreational towing or were you planning on towing 4-up or dolly?
