We bought a Thousand Trails membership this year to try out. Some of their CGs are quite nice, as long as you don't mind things like few full hookups available, low voltage and low water pressure for example. Quite different in comparison to KM Resort's Beachwood CG.
you describe a campground as archaic as that as "quite nice", I would describe it as it sucks.
but to spend thousands initially on one of these memberships and then $8,000 more to "upgrade??",

Maybe it's what you're used to and like, maybe it's the type of RV you have or maybe it's just that the Thousand Trails in the Pacific Northwest coast area are nicer than in the east? May not have any 50 amp pedestals either but that was only what the NEC required when originally built. (We have no need for 50 amps and don't care.) What is so archaic about T/T? The ones here are typically well treed and the sites are maybe 30-50' apart or more. Our favorites so far are La Conner and Pacific City.
May not have full hookups, low water pressure, low voltage is what I do not like. and most parks I have been in that were originally built with 30 amp service, have upgraded to 50 amp in part. I dare say I can "camp" for many years at better locations for the many thousands you have spent on these memberships.
