No need to camp to see critters...

We frequently get a variety of critters visiting our yard but our favorites are the Bobcats{we also get Mule Deer, Coyotes, Hawks and Owl's as well}. Momma and the twins have been visiting on a regular basis, often spending hours in our back yard. We can watch without disturbing through our sliding glass doors though it does degrade the photo quality a bit.

The games played by the twins often mimic real world hunting skills such as stalking. Mom typically brings the family a fresh killed rabbit and when lunch is through there never so much as a scrap before mom sets out on another hunt leaving the kids to play at our place. Even when she is gone for hours the Kitt's remain right where she left them.

:B
  • Nice!!! A neighbor killed a coyote we had been enjoying. What a jerk.............Another neighbor hates squirrels.....wth?
  • coolbreeze01 totally agree with you. Some people just feel the need to kill wild animals. I have never figured them out. I moved from one little town because the men's main sport was shooting cats. What this did for them; I haven't a clue, but they loved to gather at the local coffee shop and brag about their kills.
  • Thanks, so much, for your great photo! We're in AZ, too and have mounted a trail camera in our yard and we're able to view whatever comes by. I think we've seen it all and now we're hoping for a mountain lion!

    Bobcats ?

    Or wild feral house cats

Feral house cats breed out of proportion to regular wild animals
And can decimate the bird and rodent populations aka rabbit squirrel chipmunk etc..

Forcing fox and bobcat out of the area

Ask people who are song bird fans, what they think of feral cats
  • My brother lives on the side of a BIG hill (mountain) in Spearfish, SD and they have a herd of wild turkeys who cruise through his back acreage. They like to hop up on the birdbath, tip it over, and break the bowl. There are also mule deer that wander around. When they had their first snow he found tracks of a cougar across his driveway.
When we visited last summer we saw the turkeys and the deer, but no mountain lions.
  • From my window, I can see....various falcons and hawks (mostly Pale Male's descendants), different types of owls; a "racacoon" (as my DGD used to pronounce them) family crossing the street or beaming from the knothole of a tree and recently, chipmunks playing in the undergrowth of a nearby park. Various colorful song birds have become abundant in the city, as well as an egret or two stopping by for a visit. Then there was the coyote who prolly wandered down here via a local commuter train track and wound up "skating" on the ice at a local pond. Was hysterical that some city dwellers thought it was an abandoned dog :D

I live too high up to take decent pictures unfortunately:(.
Still it's a nice respite from the summer season when I can see critters closer to the ground.
  • We've seen coyotes, deer and wild turkey from our house. The surprise was the turkeys, since they usually stay down along the river, some 10 miles away as the crow flies, and nothing but open range and corn and wheat fields in between - no brush to give them any cover.
