My preference would be drip or filter, if I could still drink coffee regularly. I had too much perk coffee over a 20 year period and developed a sensitivity to something that forms when the coffee already steeped gets superheated to be sent back up the tube.
First coffee pot I remember was a two part drip pot, water got heated in thebottom, then we turned off the fire, poured the hot water into the top part which dripped slowly into the basket which went back over the bottom part.
One of my aunts had an all glass vacuum drip machine which somehow contrived to suck the hot water from the bottom part up into the top, to drip it through the coffee back into the bottom.
Today, with paper filters cheap, I would do a Melita-type thing. That's just one brand, there are imitators.
