NPS Sequestration. A reversal!

Wind Cave NP announced reversal of decision to close the Elk Mountain Camp. It will open 5/24 at the same rate, with a bit of reduced service.
I congratulate the Superintendent, Mr. Davila, and his staff for breaking with budget restrictions and reallocating funds to best serve the park and its visitors.
  • Something doesn't seem to come together here. A "Sdakotacampowner" glad to see a government run CG open when he is private. They usually have a hard time co-existing.
  • Both parties talk constantly about the waste in Government, yet nobody in Washington can think of a way to make the sequestration cuts address the waste? Instead they whine about how "draconian" a 5% cut will be. How many people have had to suck up more than a 5% cut in their personal finances in the last six years because of job losses, reduced returns on retirement investments, etc? Washington bureaucrats need to suck it up, join the rest of us in the real world and start doing their jobs.

The major govt. departments were advised by the administration to make sequestration sound so draconian that everyone would blame one political party. DW and I worked for Uncle for years and in several different agencies/depts., and believe us, every govt. entity can suck up 5% in future budget cuts without affecting their core services, for example, the FAA and air traffic controllers. Every govt. entity is bloated.

    Bingo!
Further editorial comment withheld at great personal effort and restraint.
    Amen!

of course this whole "sequestration " thing was nonsense to begin with. a 5% cut of the "proposed " increase. instead of cutting out "fluff" the admin. wanted to impact the public the most. did they get rid of the Congressional barber we are paying for? NO. any training cancelled? NO. bonuses not granted, NO. etc. etc.

Don't forget the U.S. Marines being used as umbrella holders. :W
