Around us, deer vs car is so common that it's hardly a topic anymore. But, I had one experience that both amuses and confuses me to this day. I'm heading out of town early one day for work, summer morning at daybreak. Travelling east along the 4 lane highway an entrance ramp is coming up and I see a car coming. So, I'm travelling around 74mph and get in the left lane so the car can merge onto the highway. The car, driven by a 20-something woman enters the highway and immediately is travelling faster than me so I reenter the right lane behind her. I then see a BIG buck heading across a field at full speed towards the highway. Instinct tells me to slow down, I watch as the buck runs straight into the right front of her car, she never saw it or slowed until contact. Here's the confusing part....the buck flies end over end off the highway (he had a big head of steam and the impact turned him into a cartwheeling fool). There was parts of her car, lights, reflectors, all kinds of plastic pieces hitting the windshield of my truck and littering the highway. The girl slowed to about 60mph once she hit the deer, immediately went back to 75 mph and kept right on trucking. I was behind her for another 45 miles before she took an exit to a larger town. I still can't figure out if she's my hero or some kind of wanted felon who couldn't afford to stop. Either way, very strange.
I don't know,,,, with the speeds and the crazy drivers on the interstate these days if the gauges on my truck kept reading normal and if there was no wobble in the truck from a bad tire or something then I probablyy would keep going until the next exit too.
