Odd things that Happen when on the Road

I was flyin down a rural Hwy in NM one night, company truck.
Seen a bull elk come into the ditch line and start running parallel to the road in the ditch. I hit the brakes and when I’d slowed down to about 30? Mph, elk takes a hard left and runs straight across the road. Thought I missed it, but heard a thump as I passed the elk. Stopped and the blinky light was broke off the right side of my headache rack and a scratch on the top of the drivers door. Went back to find half an elk antler laying in the road. He busted it on my headache rack.
Bad part was I was racing my boss to town. Loser buys first round. I was winning. He didn’t believe me when I called him on the radio and told him I hit an elk, slow down.
He blew by me 30 sec later and then got pulled over for speeding about 10 Mi in front of me!!
