In the mid-70's, I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB outside Gwinn, MI. My family was up from the Chicago area camping at Little Lake, MI. I had a couple of my brothers and sisters with me. Mid-summer so driving down a dirt road out the back of KI on my way to the campground with the windows open. A bee flew in the side window, hit my shoulder, and dropped into my shirt pocket. Road was empty, thankfully, as I came to a dusty, full brake, stop, jumping out of the car and tearing off my shirt before the dazed bee came around enough to decide to be upset and sting me. Meanwhile, my siblings, all in their lower teens, tweens, and single digits, are all staring out the car at me, trying to figure out just what the heck I was doing.
I finally got it out of my pocket, put the shirt back on, and climbed back into the car. As we drove the rest of the way to the campsite, I was explaining to them what had happened. None of them ever saw the bee. We got to camp, and they are all chattering on to Mom and Dad how their big brother had a fit while driving.
Your experience reminded me of this scene from Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss, which is a movie about the further summer vacation adventures of Ralphie Parker (of A Christmas Story - BB Gun fame).
Is this how you acted?
