He’s a real “expert!” Around 1300 to 1350 tongue weight. No concept of “pulling” and “carrying.”

That's alot of trailer for a 1/2 ton truck.

not sure what that little truck is rated to tow. He was probably fine, but yes, wrong gearing, wrong rear end. It all comes down to duty cycle, lol. How far did he tow and how often?

I had a 2500 diesel and know people that could tow 30,000 lbs all day long but with 410 gears. I would never do that to my truck, but it was nice knowing I could.

But the salesman told him he could tow it!

Who cares. He did it and is (through other people) here to tell us about it. Yes he may be overloaded, but whatever. He sold his camper. The Hemi and 3.92's can handle the weight. Who knows what his CCC was. He could have possibly been perfectly safe according to the numbers. We will never know!

Wrong gears? You're suggesting he should have installed aftermarket gears to get even deeper, when he already has the deepest gearing offered in the last almost 20 years in a half ton pickup?
Yet at the same time you think "that" is what was unacceptable about his setup?

Many of todays rigs with 3.42 gears, due to the 6+sp trannies, have an overall low lower than those of us with 4.10 and 4 sp auto trannies......
Just because one is above manufacture warranty/weight ratings, does not mean one is unsafe! I've seen rigs below factory ratings, that WHERE UNSAFE! As the trailer was swaying side to side, or one knew there were no brakes on trailer, and the total was way over the braking ability of the TV in and of itself. Legal weight wise, yes...safe no! Altho in some cases, it could have been ticketed for non working brakes if it could not stop, or hold the trailer during a field test by an LEO!

THings like this, best to keep ones mind open! As I recall a day and time in an OM for my post 1990 GM C/K pickups, I could increase my tow rating by 50% IF I staying under 25 mph! Many loop holes here and there!
