Oh No! Friend making big RV mistake...again.

Three years ago an old friend, who had never owned or used an RV, spent hours on the telephone with me seeking advice. He had already pretty much made up his mind and I was very careful in my responses. I didn't think it was a good match for him but, what do I know? He spent a lot of money on an RV that he has not been able to use. Now he is going to trade it on and even poorer (in my opinion) choice and it is going to cost him a bundle. It may turn out well but it bothers me. Have you had this happen? lizzie

  • Why was it not a good fit and why wasn't it used? He must feel it was good as he is continuing on. I do not know anyone's finances so I could not say if buying one was good or not. I think everyone should give it a shot.
  • We knew som people once that just had to have an RV they bought a beautiful large MH wrecked it twice because he was a poor driver and gave up RVing. I doubt that any arguement in the world would have talked them out of this purchase and it would up costing them a bundle. I usually advise people to rent an RV like or similar to the one they are thinking about and see if they really like the lifestile.
  • There is no better deal than buying somebodys mistake. There are plenty out there. Emotion buys it rather than research then they find out they bought the wrong one, or should not have gotten into it in the first place.

Why is it not a good match?

I have had a friend, about to jump into one after seeing ours, they were new in a house, about to have first baby, 2 kids ouside of the family from previous marriage, after giving lots of advice, I also WARNED pretty directly, that if you are going to get one, MAKE sure it will be a lifestyle and something you will use, or else it will rot away & be a big money waste. They waited, and are super busy with their new life.

  • Why not explain to your friend why you think it is a poor choice?

It should make you feel better if you try to steer him/her in the right direction. JMO

No, I've never had it happen. If someone asks, I will give them my honest opinion.
