From Dave the Sprinter Guy, "OK, so here is what comes from our chief Sprinter tech in regards to proper oil for Sprinter models 2010 and newer!.
The weight of the oil, 0W30, 5W30, 5W40, etc is not as critical as using the latest rated oil that creates less soot. The proper oil to use is one with a rating of 229.52, which supersedes oil with a rating of 229.51 or 229.31.
The most important thing is that it has the ESP on the bottle as this is formulated for our turbo diesel engines.
To answer the question about 0W30 compared to 5W30 or 10W30, the first number is typically lower if you live in very cold climates. But again there is not too much difference between 0W30 or 5W30 as long as it has the 229.52 low soot rating."
