oil like substance dripping from television

I doubt a capacitor leak would flow like the OP has stated. These newer flat screens have small caps and the amount of electrolyte is miniscule. Also, a leaking cap would probably mean no operation of the screen.

It may be that some oil was deposited inside the case during assembly. A worker could have used some oil for a purpose and not cleaned the residue. I hope it isn't hoisin. =)
