I believe that most people become less tolerant as an integral part of the life process. I'd wager that if you could find a similar venue for commentary in generations past, you'd find rhetoric similar to the OP here in every one of those generations. I further believe that it has much to do with confronting our own mortality, whether we admit it or not. When contemplating that we have relatively few years remaining we become far less likely to wish to include BS in that time left.
Having said that, we have overcome most of the problems by avoiding them. We're now in our 15th year of fulltiming and we learned long ago to simply not go to party central or anything close. We have to spend some time seeking out places where there aren't kids, drunks, excessive noise/lighting etc., but they are out here and we are happy being in them. The search is time well spent.
