On the road observations

I've noticed the price of fuel dropping where I'm at.. average was 4:27 and some stations 4:43 or more.. Now down to 4:03 to 4:14

The price of fuel only comes into the conversation when talking about getting to work and back, taking kids to school, going to the grocery, doctor, or any other required activity. When it comes to fuel for boats, recreational motor cycle rides, camping, going to the movies, car shows, boat shows, and even RV shows people are happy to spend the money. People may go camping closer to home, but they still go.

I just was in Myrtle Beach for 8 days 2 weeks ago and campground was 1/2 full all the time including 2 weekends. Fuel went up about .20 while I was there. Came back from Darlington today after 2 days and fuel was the same as before but there was hardly any traffic on the interstate or the state roads. It will sink in soon I'll bet. Diesel is $4.94 here and was $5.19 in SC

I was telling my wife that everyone would get use to paying $5/gallon for fuel in a few weeks. Even at $5/gallon, we still pay less than most other developed nations.

I paid $3.81 4 miles from the coastal at a Shell station 87 octane. Gas is normally more expensive right on the beach.
We were getting a little over 15 mpg towing.

Was just down to lake Oconee in Georgia and the CG was about half full. They were just doing clean up from winter and planting flowers and spreading their mulch. This was a membership campground so the weekends filled up more so than during the week. As it is I also see no let up in pressure to get sites especially in state parks. I'm seeing Tennessee state parks booking up for the summer months. Solid. The Pigeon Forge area is just starting to get pretty busy ...spring breaks and all. Gas prices may have put a small dent in some peoples travel plans but as I see it, not that much. Right now it is what it is so we either deal with the gas prices or leave the trailer parked. I'm using mine...but maybe a little closer to home.

One thing many forget.. When I was in the RV I had two vehicles
one I drove (Summers) 60 miles every two weeks. True that took about 7-8 gallons each trip.

But the other was my "Daily Driver". (It got much better millage)
Now my new "Daily Driver" ...well at 55MPH it pushes 40MPG 65 I get about 30

That one hour trip.. Only a few times a year now. (Cardiologist instead of changing campgrounds)

Nobody is slowing down on the freeways.

...but most of us won't be RVing in those other developed nations, so who cares? :p

It does save gas. My trip down to lake Oconee I did 60-65 where I could. Made it on one tank, about 30 gallons worth. On the way back I did 55 mostly. Same route and nothing different but the speed. There was about 3-4 gallons difference. Yep, not that much savings but just proof it does save gas. Not very scientific but just my observation.
